Problem installing xp

776 Views 1 Reply 2 Participants Last post by  Tumbleweed36
Since i am having so much trouble with windows 2000 i have desided to move
to xp in hopes of the newer os resolving some of my problems.

Once i format and install xp in dos the computer restarts like normal
and begins to boot xp to finish the install. After the boot where the install
should start and finish the second half, all i get is a background with a cursor.

Dose any one know what could be the problem?

Hi Lou-Saydus,

Sorry, but I did not see your post yesterday and guess some others missed it also. If you still have the problem, here is what you need to do.

First of all, don't mess with DOS if you are doing the XP Install.

Go to the BIOS setup menu and set your boot order to:

CDRom
Floppy
Hard drive

Don't forget to save before you exit.

Then, put your Operating System (XP) disk in your cdrom, boot the computer up, let it format it to NTFS, and let it install. That is all you should have to do.

Let us know if you need further help.
