Well since Debian tends to give you the bare minimum on an install I'm not sure how many extra steps we're gonna have to take here. But I'll start with the easy solution.
Try (in Gnome) going to System->Administration->Printing
And from there click "New Printer". It should be pretty straight foreward from there.
But as I said before Debian gives you the bare minimum on an install so you might be needing a few extra packages to make this work
