I am using P4S5A m/b with P4 1.6 and 256 MB sdram, 40GB HD partitioned for win98 and winXP, Canon BJC-5000 printer.
I had no trouble with this printer on win98 but gave up on using it with winXP as there are no drivers for it. Until 3 days ago I had no trouble with printing(6months). Instead of text or graphics, I am getting constantly thick black lines the size of the text or fully blacked area where the graphics or picture should be!...I have tried troubleshooting with win98,tried reinstalling the printer driver and everything that anyone could suggest me to try, but no use!
Has anyone ever experienced or heard of this happening before?
Any help please?

If your printer is usb and parallel, try the opposite of which you are using currently. If it is either only, try another cable. sounds like the printer to me- if new cable don't work, take it to a friends house and plug it in to their box and try it.

If it isn't supported under XP I would get another printer anyway.

BTW- welcome to TSF!!!!

Thanks Jamman, I`ll try using another cable(when I get one in a few days)...I`ll post the result of this attempt...and will try taking the printer to my friends place...If this does not work-I`ll use it for stress relief...hamer,chainsaw-the works!

Cool. I was seen once at work slamming a mouse against a dumpster by the cord. Funny thing was it turned out being the plug on the motherboard.

Yeah Jamman, that is funny, but it raises an interesting point... I'd re-install drivers, clan the printer ( a can of air, and a some alcohol swabs go a long way), and if your going to try the printer on someone elses box, you should try their printer on the port your using, and see if it works. (if that ports is screwed, I'd find a USB printer, and get a card if you need one) I hope this helps....if your going to buy another printer, I recommend a Lexmark Z43, they have a huge resolution, and are fast as all hell, plus they are supported in WinXP :D
