Printer indicates out of paper

I have an HP LaserJet 1300 printer. It can't print documents because the light keeps indicating that there is no paper, even though there's paper(s) in the printer tray. Can anyone assist trouble shoot this problem?

A couple of things come to the top of my head.

The printer itself is "dirty". (the feeders for the paper). Should be something in a manual or help file about how to clean it.

Or a simple re-install of the driver might fix it.

Also, there should be a "Troubleshooting" area in the printer software. Most have them. Try going to your printer in the Control Panel and open it there. Look at the top for Help and click it. You should see Help Topics and Troubleshooter.

I have an older HP Printer, but that's where it's at for me.
briana, do you mean that the "Attention" light (bottom left hand light) is blinking? If so, this doesn't just mean that the paper is out; it can indicate a jam that hasn't been cleared, a cartridge that isn't inserted quite all the way, or a problem with either the left side door being open or the door sensor sticking. Try opening the door and pushing the door sensor gently with a finger to see if it is stuck. If it is, moving it manually should clear the message. You need to recheck all of the above.

If you first started getting this error after clearing a paper jam, there is either still some paper stuck in the printer or the paper sensor may have been damaged.
