Power went out, computer won't start, where do I begin?

Hello,

Unfortunately a power outage this morning has left my computer dead. When I go to power the computer back on, I hear a click and the power button very briefly (just a flash really) lights up as if it's trying to power up. Additionally, there's a green light on the back of the PC that's usually on when the computer's plugged in, and it IS still on.

So I'm trying to figure out if these symptoms lead to a dead power supply, or a dead, well, something worse :(

Any help would be appreciated...

Try clearing the CMOS by removing the motherboard battery. When it is out, hit the on button a time or two. Be sure the computer is unplugged and you are grounded when you get in that case. Also, don't try the computer until you have put the battery back in. Let us know if this helps.

I sure hope the lightening didn't fry something like your power supply.
Well, today is clearly a day for me to count my blessings. I completely disconnected everything and left it so for about a half an hour. When I plugged everything back in, I was back up and running!

Tumbleweed, thanks so much for taking the time to reply. Have a great weekend :)
You are really blessed and I am happy for you. Have a wonderful weekend yourself with a working computer.
