Hi i'm new to the forum and i was in the process of upgrading a 486 that i inherited. I was doing fine until one I went to turn it on and it would light up or anything. The power supply on it is an AX and the fan isn't working. Could this be the problem? Although the fan doesn't work the power supply itself is heating up so i know that the power supply isn't completely bad. I'm thinking about purchasing a new power supply off Ebay but would like some suggestions about what to do before hand. Thanks in advance.

Hello chellemusica21 and Welcome to Tech Support Forums....:D

Did it ever turn on while in your possession?

The power supply sounds like it's toast.

As I have no idea where you are but I would search your local area for a used power supply. Bring your old one with you.

This should be what is called an AT power supply and should have two plugs that hook to the motherboard.

When you do get one make sure that you hook up the new one that the two plugs that go to the motherboard have the black wires in the middle side by side.
