I have a Gateway M280e convertable laptop that seems to be having problems charging the battery while turned on. I have a new AC converter and a new battery that I am using with the machine.
The problem that I am having starts with turning the machine on first thing in the morning. If I do not let the computer sit for a few minutes on the AC converter before turing it on, the power will switch between battery and AC power every second and the battery will not charge. If I leave the computer off and plugged in for a few minutes, the battery indicator light will change from pupple to blue indicating full charge and the computer will run fine on AC power. If I unplug the computer and move about the office and then try to plug the computer back in the problem starts again. I think that there is a problem in the hardware with a switch to charge the battery and run the computer, but how can I prove this and also fix it. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Is the battery and the adapter original/genuine Gateway? If not (and you still have the original Gateway adapter), check and compare the rated output power (watts or volts and amps). New AC adapter should at least equal the rating of the genuine adapter.
Thanks for the reply! I purchased the AC adapter and battery from the authorized Gateway site. Since Gateway itself does not support replacement parts my only option was the site they recommended. Any other ideas? Thanks!
