After reinstalling windows xp home (reformat) I no longer have the option to standby in the Power options under the control panel. If I click 'start', turn off computer, the standby option is shaded out, the only options I have are to 'turn off' or 'restart'.
I had the option to standby before reformating and reinstalling winxp.
Any suggestions?

I assume I did. The hard drive had a partition 'D' that had the back up of winxp home and all original software on it. I restored from that partition. All hardware is original to the computer except the power supply which had been replaced, (could that be the problem?)

Hi

Firstly Enable Fast User Switching: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/279765

Then go into Control Panel>Power Options
Under Power Schemes, choose Home/Office desk. You may also have a Hibernate tab. Go to that and enable it. Sometimes clicking that can bring up the standby options under PowerSchemes. Restart after this and see how that goes.

Do you now get any options of Standby under PowerSchemes?

The problem is fixed now. After encountering several other problems after installing ie7 I opted to revert back to ie6 (uninstalled ie7) and the power option is fixed along with the other known problems.
Thanks for your help.
