Hello! I've been having some problems with my comptuer lately. First of all, a bit of background is needed. I get DSL from SBC Yahoo!, and during the past few weeks, the DSL has been completely failing from time to time. Yet all of the network lights indicate that everything is working fine, and everything is plugged in. The net will just suddenly not work. Usually, it would go off about 10pm, and come on sometime in the middle of the night. But yesterday night, it went off and didn't come back on at all. I found a file called motor.exe in my C drive folder, and deleted it. It came back. I deleted it again. Then the comptuer started acting really funny. It was slow, and it wouldn't let me run HijackThis, open the Add/remove programs list, or start up in safe mode. I can still get on dialup, so I did that, and ran a Panda Scan online. Three viruses and a bunch of other junk was detected, but the window running the scan wouldn't maximize, so I have no idea what any of it is. Panda is supposed to automatically clean viruses, so I'm hoping that the three viruses were gone. After running the scan, I ran CleanUp! and restarted my comptuer. Now all of a sudden, the network is working again, and I can run HijackThis (obviously, because I made a scan for you), add/remove programs now opens (there were no suspicious programs on the list).

Yes, this still has to do with HijackThis, so please bear with me.

I was wondering if the viruses on my comptuer could have been crashing the network. There are two other comptuers on the network at the time, both desktops. And when the network would crash, the net would go down for all of them at once. Could a virus on one computer mess the internet up for the rest of them? Now, however, my comptuer is running very slow. This is where the log comes in. Can you review it, and tell me if there are any hidden nasties in it? And do you also have any ideas about what could have been going on with the router (and if it could still be going on)? Thanks for your help!

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad in order to assist you when carrying out the following instructions.

You are using an outdated version of Hijack This. Please download and install the latest version by going to this Site

Download Spybot. Install the program, update the definitions file and run a scan. Fix all the entries, which are indicated in RED.

Please download Adaware SE and install it if you don't have it already. Make sure it's the newest version and check for any updates before running it. Go to this Site to get the plug-in for fixing VX2 variants.
Also make sure to Customize the settings in Adaware for better scan results. Run the scan and fix everything that it finds.

Go to My Computer >Tools >Folder Options >View tab and make sure that Show hidden files and folders is enabled. Also make sure that the System Files and Folders are showing / visible. Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files option.

Reboot your system in Safe Mode (By repeatedly tapping the F8 key until the menu appears).

Go into Hijack This->Config->Misc. Tools->Open process manager. Select the following and click “Kill process” for each one (If they still exist)(You must kill them one at a time).

Open Hijack This and click on Scan. Check the following entries (make sure you do not miss any)

Reboot your system in Normal Mode.

Perform an online scan with Internet Explorer with Panda ActiveScan

1. Click Scan your PC & a 'pop up' window shall appear. *ensure that your pop up blocker doesn't block it
2. Click Scan Now
3. Enter your e-mail address & click Scan Now ...begins downloading 8 MB Panda's ActiveXcontrols

Begin the scan by selecting My Computer

• If it finds any malware, it will offer you a report.
• Click on see report. Then click Save report

*You needn't remain online while it's doing the scan but you have to re-connect after it has finished to see the report.
*Turn off the real time scanner of any existing antivirus program while performing the online scan

In your next reply please post the contents of the Panda report, as well as a fresh Hijack This log so that we can check if your system is clean.

I've used Panda Scan before, and the pop-up window that conducts the scan is always unable to maximize. This never lets me see the results of any scan that I conduct, so there is never a button to click that will allow me to see any report. Is there any way to fix this?

Hi Hariah,
The Activescan scanning window does not maximize. It may be that Panda did not find any threats, If this happens it does not offer scan results. Only if the scan finds infections will it offer to see report and save it.You should be able to see what the scan is finding in the list in the scanning window.If you're unable to complete the Panda Activescan we can try a different scanner.

Perform an online scan with Internet Explorer with Kaspersky WebScanner

Next Click on Launch Kaspersky Anti-Virus Web Scanner

You will be prompted to install an ActiveX component from Kaspersky, Click Yes.

• The program will launch and then begin downloading the latest definition files:
• Once the files have been downloaded click on NEXT
• Now click on Scan Settings
• In the scan settings make that the following are selected:
  • Scan using the followingAnti-Virus database:
  • Standard
  • Scan Options:
  • Scan Archives
    Scan Mail Bases
• Click OK
• Now under select a target to scan:
  • Select My Computer
• This will program will start and scan your system.
• The scan will take a while so be patient and let it run.
• Once the scan is complete it will display if your system has been infected.
  • Now click on the Save as Text button:
• Save the file to your desktop.
• Copy and paste that information in your next post.

Take note the names and locations of any file it detects but fails to clean.

* Turn off the real time scanner of any existing antivirus program while performing the online scan

Trend Micro™


Please download Trend Micro™ Anti-Spyware for the Web Utility (by clicking the "Scan and Clean your PC" button).

• Save it to your desktop.
• Double-click the new icon on your desktop (tmas-web-scan.exe)
• It will say "Loading TrendMicro definitions".
• Once the definitions are loaded, the program will appear to close then re-open.
• Click "Start Scan"
• After it's done scanning, click "Scan Results"
• Make sure all items found have a check next to them, then click "Clean Threats Now".
• Click Exit.

Reboot your computer. In place of the TrendMicro icon will be a text file called "Antispyware.log", please double-click that log and copy the entire contents and paste them here.I then need you to repeat the same procedure above again... using the TrendMicro tool. I need the log from the second scan/clean...NOT the first...as this will contain what’s left in the system.
