Possible virus

When I went on my computer I noticed that Windows did an update overnight...the screen display was then in low resolution mode and the display was shifted to left with blank space on the left. I pressed some of the monitor buttons and an auto config started which fixed the display shift. Then I logged into my account and all the desktop icons were spread horizontally in rows. When I switched to a higher resolution the screen display was narrowed vertically like a wide screen movie.

Could I have a virus?
