Hello,

Windows 7 HP 64-bit.

Pointer exists, but does not move, whether in safe mode or not. Exterior mouse doesn't install, and I found that neither will a USB thumb drive. I booted to the DVD to run system file checker which found no issues. I should also note that the touchpad worked fine while booted to the DVD, so it's not a hardware issue.

Hello,

Thanks for your reply. As I mentioned in my original post, the mouse and USB ports didn't work in Safe Mode, either. I just now found that if I load Windows, allowing it to load unsigned drivers, that it works fine. I'm now looking at how to update the drivers.

You can either use windows update or try from device manager my own preference is to go to the computer makers support page for your model and get the drivers from there

Windows update is currently running. While that was running, I went to device manager, which told me I already had the best driver. When Windows Update is complete (I will run it as many times as it takes) I will hit the manufacturer site if the problem persists.

Thank you for your help.
