I also wrote many messages in forum before this on this subject. My System was attacked by CIH virus on 26th April. I was able to retrieve my data From Harddisk due to kind guidance of u ppl. Uptill now I was doing all work on other system .When I put my harddisk in my affected computer I realized that something was wrong with my BIOS, because some times it detects my Harddisk while some time Gives error “
DISK BOOT FAILURE” however same disk works 100% fine on other machine. I have also tried HArddisk of my computer in my machine but again it gives same message so one thing is 100% sure that there is no problm with Harddisk.
Secondly when I connect CD Rom in my machine it ignores Harddisk and tries to boot from CD although I have checked Boot sequence in BIOS it is floppy, HDD0,Cdrom. Secondly once Cdrom is connected it detects it with proper name
Primary Slave “Mercury CD Rom” but when I restart my computer 2 or 3 times it start giving very strange name in primary slave “ ^^^^^^^#####!!!!!” such sort of alien things are written in primary slave , it seems that BIOS generates error code. I have also tried other harddisk on my effected machine but for all gives “ Disk Boot Failure”
So tell me how to save my mother board.
MY mothrboard is i810DXC. And BIOS is Award Modular BIOS V6.00PG.. Yesterday I upgraded my BIOS by downloading it from AZAA site and it was upgraded by utility successfully but problem still persists.
Please tell me any method to save my motherboard. And tell me anyother site from where I can download BIOS of i810DXC again , I want to try again upgradation of BIOS. and one thingy my computer can boot from floppy in a proper way. secondly i have done all methods of BIOS , removing battery and of jumper as per manual but no progress . and my computer was working all fine before this virus.plz help me

well, I wouldnt use anything downloaded from KAZAA, if thats what you meant, let alone my BIOS...even when I download it from a trusted source, such a mfg. website, I run AV scan on it. Yeah, Im paranoid. Now, CIH virus does attempt to ruin your BIOS but cases of that are rare...the first payload of the virus goes after boot sector on your HD...The second part of it goes after flash BIOS. Since there are many types and versions of BIOS, it usually does not succeed in corrupting it...it seems like that part of the virus was written poorly. If it does succeed, it goes after flashBIOS, throwing it into a loop...now again, due to the sloppy virus, sometimes you get trough and boots ok, sometimes you get nowhere... try downloading fresh BIOS version from mfg. website and flash it....If it doesnt work, you might have to get a new mobo
