Plugged in Headphones and POP goes Intel MB

So this is my second Intel MB GD965RY that has gone bad. First lasted bout 10 min then died. Second has been running for 3 days and then I pluged in my headphones w/ mic and heard a POP from my computer, it shut down and will not restart. Only 2 fans out of 3 that are all connected to my MB work, the other just sits there. Any Ideas on what I can try:4-dontkno . I have already tested the HEadphones on my brothers computer and they worked fine.

if it is a front connection,the m/b and the case connections may not be stanard causing a short
disconnect it from the m/b

I disconnected it right after it happened and now I get nothing. Sending the board back to Newegg today and ordering a new different model or brand, havent decided yet.

There was a semi loud "pop" which came from inside the case when I pluged it in so I am fairly sure a resistor or something blew.
I had something like this happen to me as well, but it turns out that the mini board that was mounted on the case was bad. Are the leads from the case in a block or are they individual connectors?

They are in a block connected to another block then to sperate wires.
goes like this
HD audio --> AC'97 --> loose connectors.
