Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should 'not' have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below.

Go to My Computer->Tools->Folder Options->View tab:
* Under the Hidden files and folders heading, select Show hidden files and folders.
* Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
* Click Yes to confirm and then click OK.

For the options that you checked/enabled earlier, you may uncheck them after your log is clean. If we ask you to fix a program that you use or want to keep, please post back saying that (we don't know every program that exists, so we may tell you to delete a program that we think is bad to keep).

Make sure you downloaded, installed, updated and ran these programs already - Ad-aware, Spybot and Microsoft AntiSpyware. If you didn't, do them now. For more information, go to http://www.greyknight17.com/spyware.htm
Run an online virus scan at TrendMicro http://uk.trendmicro-europe.com/enterprise/products/housecall_launch.php. Just follow the instructions on the site to run the free online scan. If any viruses/trojans are detected, try to delete or clean them in that site. If any are not cleanable, copy and paste the infected files here. You may also use Panda ActiveScan at http://www.pandasoftware.com/products/activescan. Post the log from the Panda scan here.

Restart your computer and boot into Safe Mode by hitting the F8 key repeatedly until a menu shows up (and choose Safe Mode from the list). In some systems, this may be the F5 key, so try that if F8 doesn't work. Make sure to close any open browsers.

Run a scan in HijackThis. Check each of the following and hit 'Fix checked' (after checking them) if they still exist (make sure not to miss any):

R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page =
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchURL,(Default) = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/cus...//www.yahoo.com
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [msresearch] C:\WINDOWS\tool3.exe
O20 - Winlogon Notify: drct16 - C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\drct16.dll

Delete the following Files/Folders (delete folders if no filename is specified) according to their directory (if none, just do a search for them) and delete them if they exist:

C:\WINDOWS\tool3.exe
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\drct16.dll

Restart and run a new HijackThis scan. Save the log file and post it here.

Hello parag1123,

You have 2 nasty infections here. We'll try to get them both at the same time.

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad since you will not have any of browsers open while you are fixing this. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. Again, you should not have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below.

Download smitRem at http://noahdfear.geekstogo.com/click counter/click.php?id=1 and save the file to your desktop.

Download KillBox http://www.greyknight17.com/spy/KillBox.exe. (We may need it on the next pass.)

Download the file (fixhx.txt) attached to this post http://www.techsupportforum.com/showthread.php?t=34430 and save it to your desktop. Right click on the file and choose rename. Rename the file from fixhx.txt to fixhx.reg. DO NOT run it yet.

Please download Ewido Security Suite at http://www.ewido.net/en/download/ and read the Ewido setup instructions at http://rstones12.geekstogo.com/ewidosetup.htm. Install it, and update the definitions to the newest files. Do NOT run a scan yet.

If you have not already installed Ad-Aware SE 1.06, follow the download and setup instructions at http://rstones12.geekstogo.com/adawareSE_setup.htm. Otherwise, check for updates. Don't run it yet!

Download CleanUp! (Alternate Link if main link doesn't work) and install it. Do not run it yet.

Now..disconnect this PC from the internet (unplug the modem..etc) as it MUST have no internet access.

Restart your computer and boot into Safe Mode by hitting the F8 key repeatedly until a menu shows up (and choose Safe Mode from the list). In some systems, this may be the F5 key, so try that if F8 doesn't work. Make sure to close any open browsers.

Open Cleanup! by double-clicking the icon on your desktop (or from the Start > All Programs menu). Set the program up as follows:
*Click "Options..."
*Move the arrow down to "Custom CleanUp!"
*Put a check next to the following:
-Empty Recycle Bins
-Temporary Internet Files
-Delete Cookies
-Delete Prefetch files
]-[X]Scan local drives for temporary files [/b] (Please uncheck this option)
-Cleanup! All Users
Click OK
Press the CleanUp! button to start the program.

On the reboot...boot directly to safe mode.

Double click on the fixhx.reg we made earlier and merge it to the registry. Choose YES when it asks to merge.

Run Killbox again and clear the temp files
- choose Tools > Delete Temp Files and click OK.

Go into Hijack This->Config->Misc. Tools->Open process manager. Select the following and click “Kill process” for each one if they are still listed (they shouldn't be - but double check it):(You must kill them one at a time).

C:\WINDOWS\System32\intel32.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\mszx23.exe

Run a scan in HijackThis. Check each of the following and hit 'Fix checked' (after checking them) if they still exist (make sure not to miss any):

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [intel32.exe] C:\WINDOWS\System32\intel32.exe
O20 - Winlogon Notify: drct16 - C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\drct16.dll

Delete the following file:

C:\WINDOWS\System32\intel32.exe

Open Windows Explorer and navigate to the C:\Windows\System32 folder
You will likely want the details view and to sort the files by DATE (Arrange icons --> modified)

Have a look for the following files (which should all be about the same date)
Some of them may not be present and there may be some which I haven't listed.

C:\WINDOWS\system32\mszx23.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\Tibs3.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\w32tm.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\drct16.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\cz.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\vdmt16.sys
C:\WINDOWS\system32\hz.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\winlow.sys
C:\WINDOWS\system32\wz.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\p2.ini
C:\WINDOWS\system32\es.
C:\WINDOWS\system32\WaiZ.
C:\WINDOWS\system32\z.
C:\WINDOWS\system32\—I0¢+opes.
C:\WINDOWS\system32\slowIsys.
C:\WINDOWS\system32\zININEwz.
C:\WINDOWS\system32\2Ioso.
C:\WINDOWS\system32\3d.
C:\WINDOWS\system32\|msz.

If you find these files delete them.

Run the smitRem.exe tool you downloaded earlier. Follow the prompts on the screen. Wait for the tool to complete and disk cleanup to finish.

The tool will create a log named smitfiles.txt in the root of your drive, eg: Local Disk C: or partition where your operating system is installed. Please post that log along with all others requested in your next reply.

Open Ad-aware and do a full scan. Remove all it finds.

Run Ewido:

* Click on scanner.
* Click on Complete System Scan and the scan will begin.
* NOTE: During some scans with ewido it is finding cases of false positives.
* You will need to step through the process of cleaning files one-by-one.
* If Ewido detects a file you KNOW to be legitimate, select none as the action.
* Do NOT select 'Perform action on all infections'.
* If you are unsure of any entry found, select none for now.
* When the scan is finished, click the Save report button at the bottom of the screen.
* Save the report to your desktop.

Close Ewido.

Next go to Control Panel->Display->Desktop->Customize Desktop->Web-> Uncheck 'Security Info' if present.

Reboot back into Windows and go to Panda ActiveScan - requires Internet Explorer

  1. Click on the Scan your PC button & a 'pop up' window shall appear. * ensure that your pop up blocker doesn't block it
  2. Click On 'Scan Now'
  3. Enter your e-mail address & click 'Scan Now' ...begins downloading Panda's ActiveX controls.- 8MB
  4. Begin the scan by selecting My Computer
    * You needn't remain online while it's doing the scan but you have to re-connect after it has finished to see the report.
  5. If it finds any malware, it will offer you a report. Click on see report
  6. Then click Save report
  7. Post the contents of the report in your next reply

Download FindIt's.zip http://forums.net-integration.net/index.php?act=Attach&type=post&id=142443 to your desktop.

1. Unzip/extract the files inside to a folder on your desktop.
2. Open the folder. Double click on FindIt's.bat and wait for Notepad to open a text file. It will take a while so please be patient...

Note: If you are having problems using FindIt's.bat (16 bit error), copy autoexec.nt from the C:\WINDOWS\repair folder to C:\WINDOWS\system32 folder. Now try running FindIt's.bat.
3. Then post the FindIt's log here along with the logs for HijackThis, Panda ActiveScan, smitfiles.txt and Ewido and
