Hi everyone, im new here! nice to meet you all =)

Well I've been having problems with my computer which has been working perfectly for the past 4.5 years now, but ever since last week, it randomly locks up for no reason and when i restart the computer, nothing comes on the monitor, i don't think the computer even boots, i just turn on my speakers to hear the ASUS motherboard POST Voice saying 'System failed CPU Test'. I have to keep restarting my computer until it works, and its really getting annoying.

Anybody here have the slightest idea what could be up with my PC?
Btw, my specs are (don't laugh lol its old i know):

- P4 2.53Ghz
- Kingmax 2xDDR PC2700 512MB RAM
- ASUS GeForce 4 Ti4600 Ultra Deluxe
- ASUS P4S8X Mobo

I think thats the main stuff there...if theres anything else needed please let me know, and hey thanks for your help in advance! I really appreciate your time, thank you =)

Hello and Welcome to TSF.

1st thing to try would be clearing the CMOS.

Unplug the PC from the wall, and remove the side cover.

Touch the bare metal of the case to discharge any static electricity that may be built up in you body.

Remove the small coin like battery from the motherboard.

Find the clear CMOS jumper (it may be labeled CLRTC) and move the jumper from pins 1-2 to pins 2-3 for about a minute.

Move the jumper back to pins 1-2, replace the battery, plug it in and see if it'll boot. You'll need to enter the BIOS and load setup defaults when it POSTs.

Post back with your results.

BTW, what's the make and model of your power supply?

Hey, yeah I think my friend should have a spare PSU so i'll try it on that.
Btw, if the problem really is my PSU, does that mean that my PSU didn't output enough power or didn't output as much as it used to?

Hello. The possible solution to your problem can be found at 'hardwareanalysis.com'. Search for this forum 'P4C800 and Retail Intel heatsink and fan too tight??' It will explain how a tight fan assembly can reak havoc on your cpu post. Good luck!
