Hi there,

Over the past couple of days my pc start up is taking a very long time and it's confusing me!

Basically, when i get to the welcome screen it hangs there for ages and then i get a blank screen for a few minutes until my desktop icons appear and start up applications appear to start loading up!

I used to have a very quick start up on the machine and run av and spyware scans regularly and clean up my hard disk on a regular basis but this problem does not appear to go away!

My PC is by no means slow with 1 gb of ram and a pentium 4 3GHz processor so i am mystified!

I have around 75% space free on my hard drive as well!

Please, please can somebody help me as i am concerned my motherboard maybe on its way out but i need confirmation from someone with far more knowledge than myself.

Many thanks and i look forward to hearing from you

I really don't know much about computer systems but I did have the same kind of problem which was cured by reducing the start up programes to a minimum, using one of the standard cleaners.
Hope this helps.

Hi, welcome to TSF.

Sounds like a malware scan running at startup. Have you installed new security software lately?
You can use msconfig to control what programs should run at Windows startup.
(click Start > Run > type msconfig > click OK)

Many thanks for your replies guys.
I have already disabled all start up applications except zone alarm using msconfig which has speeded up my start up in the past when this problem wasnt occuring. There are no other irems starting up as far as i am aware now as only the zone alarm check box is ticked!
Also i have already run scans using ad-aware, spybot, ccleaner and avg to clear any potential problems but the problem is still there!
I just downloaded the "bootvis" programme but when i restart i get an error message saying 'no bootvis file found in start up programmes' or words to that affect and nothing seems to happen on reboot! i have done this 3 times now!!
Should i reintall "bootvis" and if so please can you give me some advice on how to use it as the instructions are pretty 'sketchy'!!

Many thanks for all your help and hopefully hear from you very soon
