Hello all -
Running Windows XP Media Center 2002 service pack 2.
I recently cleaned a lot of bad stuff off the system,
but a vexing issue remains including occasional browser redirects (unable to access malwarebytes.org, even mwb itself cannot update eg), and more frequent lockups than usual, and occasional random appearances of rundll in task mgr.
I think I have isolated the culprit to something named "YIIFLK" in the registry
it appears in several places, most notably as a BOOT EXTENDER.
google search on it turns up NOTHING.
i tried prevx 3.0, an updated malware bytes, tddskiller, and GMER - everything scans CLEAN.
so my question is this:
does anyone know exactly what YIIFLK Is?
I should also note that i have 2 separate hard drives on the machine
and i have each one set as a boot option - so i press F12 on boot screen and get a choice of which drive to boot from (both XP Media 2002).
Only the IDE drive (C) has this problem.
THe SATA drive is clean and running well.
I thought perhaps the boot extender has to do with my having set up the 2 boot drives. Would really like some guidance from a wizard or two out there. Thank you very much.

Hello and Welcome.

We want all our members to perform the steps outlined in the link I'll give you below, before posting for assistance. There's a sticky at the top of this forum, and a
Having problems with spyware and pop-ups? First Steps
link at the top of each page.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Please follow our pre-posting process outlined here:

http://www.techsupportforum.com/f50...-posting-for-malware-removal-help-305963.html

After running through all the steps, you shall have a proper set of logs. Please post them in a new topic, as this one shall be closed. I currently have as many open topics as I can effectively handle; this will have you back in queue with the proper logs so an available helper would be able to assist.

If you have trouble with one of the steps, simply move on to the next one, and make note of it in your reply.

Please note that the Virus/Trojan/Spyware Help forum is extremely busy, and it may take a while to receive a reply.
