I seriously need some help here! Please anybody!
The situation:

I bought a new motherboard and cpu last week because I came home one night and my pc was dead... just dead and it turned out that the motherboard was broken so I replaced it with a cheaper m3n78-emh hdmi. It's only a year old pc and the old motherboard was a m2n32-sli-deluxe. The cpu was a 3800+ and I decided to get a new one amd6000+. (3800+ is 110W and 6000+ is 125w) Then I started getting some issues which seemed power supply related... couldn't install windows when I formatted my pc and my pc also shut down randomly when I tried to play assassins creed or installing new software. I'm not getting that problem anymore coz I bought a new psu. Howerver: The new psu is also a 500w like the old one and I AM STILL GETTING PERFOMANCE ISSUES with my games. It's a gaming rig. Has 1 gig 800mhz ram and an amd6000+ and 8800gts graphics. 250gig hdd. Old games work fine but new ones keep on lagging every few seconds while I play. Do I need more power supply? I used power supply calulators and seems I have enough power and also my grapics card manual says I require 400w power supply. I also have the newest drivers on my pc for everything...

please assist.

I am using a nvidia 8800gts 320mb card. The brand name of my psu? Dont know. Will check tonight. A bought it yesterday. The first 10 minutes in any game will run smooth when I switch it on but afterwards the lagging starts... really frustrating. Am going to test it on a 600w psu.

You simply don't have enough power and that is why it is doing that. For an 8800, you need about a 650 watt power supply by a brand name manufacturer, Is there any way you can return it and get a bigger brand name supply?

Here is a list you need to consider:

Seasonic - any model
Corsair - any model
Thermaltake - "Toughpower" series only
Coolermaster - "Real Power Pro" series only
PC Power & Cooling - any model
Silverstone - any model

ok we'll see if it's not enough power. I will test it on a 650w. But I have had the pc for a year now and it has always been enough power. When my motherboard failed I got a new one and also a new cpu. The new cpu is only 15w more.

Another thing: There are a couple of games that don't have a lack in performance. Condemned works fine, overclocked (new demo) and iron man. Even if I bring the graphics of assasins creed down totally or rainbow 6 las vegas they still do the lag thing every few seconds. So shouldn't the graphics card use less power if the graphics is set down?

Two pertinent things. The 8800 video card you have is simply a power hog. Great card, but power hungry. The second thing is that as your power supply ages, it gets weaker and doesn't put out as much power as even a few months ago. I think that is what you are dealing with. Do you know someone who has a 650 watt power supply (major brand name) that you could try his/her supply on your rig?

I will go to someone with a bigger power supply yes. There is a coolermaster 650w on pc123 website and it's R689.00inc. Is that a good price? Hopefully my pc only needs more power. If the problem persists after installing a new psu unit I will have to take the pc back to the guy who installed the cpu and motherboard and get it looked at.

Coolermaster 650W Model eXtreme Power RP-650-PCAR Power Supply
If you say go ahead I'm going to buy it. But only at the end of the month coz I don't have money now. Is it ok if I keep on using my pc for now? Is it going to do damage?
