Hey Guys,

I'm not sure this is the right place for this but my issue is simply that one of the DvD drives on my computer won't open. It clearly responds (I can hear it trying to open) when I press the button, but nothing happens. I would like to fix it because there is a disk in there I want to return to a friend, but I don't want to just try to pry it open. Are there any particular techniques to fixing this? Thanks :)

There should be a tiny hole at the front of the drive, just below the tray. Stick a pin or paperclip into it to release the locking mechanism.

Not an uncommon problem particularly with frequently used optical drives. Make sure the drawer mechanism is clean but it's most likely time to replace it f you don't want to continue using the paperclip to open the drive.

I did this, and I felt something being pushed (like I was releasing the locking mechanism) but the same thing happened: it made a sound and the light went on but it was still unable to open.

Check the drives connections but I'd say you need to replace the drive.
