PERL to hyper terminal

Hi, i am doing a project on SMS to and from a computer. I have the SMS AT commands sorted and i have a GSM modem, i need to be able to perform tasks on the incoming messages using PERL, im wondering how i can give commands directly to the hyper terminal using PERL? I dont know of any PERL modules that exist that do this and i dont fancy writing one myself.

any ideas will be most appreciated!!!

also is there a better way than hyper terminal that uses a command line systeem, i dont want to use a GUI client for the AT commands.
