Peculiar Folder in C:\

Just a little interested about a folder I found. Want to be sure about it before I try to do anything with it.

I'm running Windows XP on my machine and have all the recent security updates, etc. Anyway, I came across this odd folder in C:\ that wasn't there (to my knowledge) when I first bought the PC (new).

The folder is named: "fd5e03d4850d1a06878da6f3ddd2" Which is what caught my eye.

Inside is a single, fairly big (283kb) log file titled "msxml4-KB927978-enu.log". That sounded to me like one of the security updates. But why the odd folder name?

Also, I read the log and one of the many lines says this: "MSI (s) (DC:78) [22:20:18:968]: Hello, I'm your 32bit Impersonated custom action server." :uhoh:

I'm a little confused here... Is this something I should be worried about? I've scanned my computer frequently for spyware and viruses -- with nothing showing up.

Please advise. Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi and welcome to TSF.

It's simply a leftover log when the installer failed to clean itself after updating. You can safely delete it. For more details see here
