PCI Question.

950 Views 2 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  koala
I recently have been make some upgrades to my sisters home computer for her son. He's into computer games and just bought a game called Age of Conan, the computer supports PCI Graphics cards. My question is this ( for those in the know or have a PCI Graphics card ) what should I buy to put in for him. I don't want to put in something expensive since the computer is older, but one that would meet the min reqs for the game.

Check if the motherboard supports AGP as well... most likely motherboards nowadays support both
Hi, welcome to TSF

Please post back with the motherboard make/model.

If it only has PCI slots then you won't be able to play Age Of Conan because it will be too slow. PCI graphics cards don't have the technology and features required to handle a high-end game like this.

Do you mean PCI (common to all motherboards, but not recommended for graphics cards anymore) or PCI-E (only found on recent motherboards)?

Using your sister's computer, go here and select Age Of Conan from the dropdown list, then click the 'Can you run it' button to see if it meets the minimum requirements.

Minimum Requirements:

CPU: Pentium 4/Athlon XP or better
CPU Speed: 3 GHz
System RAM: 1 GB
Operating System: Windows XP/Vista
Video Card: 128 MB DirectX 9.0c Graphics Card with Shader 2.0 support (NVIDIA GeForce 6800+ / ATI Radeon 9800+)
Video RAM: 128 MB
Video Card 3D Acceleration: Required
Video HW Transform & Lighting: Required
Vertex Shader: Version 2.0
Pixel Shader: Version 2.0
Free Disk Space: 30GB
DVD: Quad-speed (4x) DVD-ROM drive
