PCI-e 2.0 Vid work with PCI-e (non 2.0) MB

I am thinking about buying these to put in a new comp:

EVGA 122-CK-NF68-A1 LGA 775 NVIDIA nForce 680i SLI ATX Intel Motherboard - Retail

EVGA 512-P3-N841-AR GeForce 8800GTS (G92) 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Supported Video Card - Retail

.... However the motherboard has no PCI-e 2.0 expansion slots so I am wondering if the PCI-e 2.0 ready vid card will work with the MB being as that it is just regular PCI-e x16

Anyone know the answer to this?
A PCIe 2.0 video card is backward compatible with a PCIe 1.0 expansion slot. It will work.

The "Official" PCI sig position is that they're compatible. The reality is somewhat more complicated. NVIDIA PCI-Express 2.0 video cards sometimes do not work with PCI-Express 1.0 motherboards. ATI PCI-Express 2.0 video cards do work with PCI-Express 1.0 motherboards. Both NVIDIA and ATI PCI-Express 2.0 video cards do work with PCI-Express 1.1 motherboards. You can see some basics on this subject here and here.

Fortunately, the motherboard in question uses an NVIDIA 680i northbridge which is PCI-Express 1.1 according to these guys so you should be okay.
