Hi all,

first of all here is my rig:

core 2 duo e8400 cpu
GA-EP45-DS3 Mobo
g.skill 4 X 1 GB pc8500 1066mhz 5-5-5-15
4870 gfx card

so i recently decided to upgrade to 4 GB of ram after initially having 2 GB running perfecly for over a year on windows vista 32BIT.
I got the extra 2GBs because i got win7 64 bit -------so i bought exacly the same ram as my old one G.skill 2 x 1 GB pc8500 1066mhz 5-5-5-15

The problem is the system wont boot after I install the 4 sticks of ram but will run perfecly fine with 2 sticks

Ive tried the 2 new sticks alone and they worked but using all of the 4GB wont let me boot the system I also tried diffrent combinations like old ram with new and results were that as long as its 2GB it will boot but not 4GB

after a lot of googling here are the thing i tried until now:

updated bios - nothing
shifted the sticks in diffrent combinations -nothing
i set the voltage to 2.0V and 2.1V in BIOS (on the ram the sticker says 2.0-2.1v) -nothing
i installed and reinstalled the sticks many times -nothing

Im really desperate ive tried everything

anyone has an idea of whats happening? im sure nothing is defective when it comes to hardware because i tried the sticks on the 2 other slots alone and system booted

Thanks in advance

well...based on the info given i'll guess the ram is F2-8500CL5D-2GBPK
which is not on the GA QVP, or on G.SKILL's recommended list for the GA-EP45-DS3.

so...worst case senario is it will never accept more than 2GB, (not compatible).

note, the timing is 5-5-5-15 at DDR2 800 (spd settings)
so try at the lower speed (CPU Host Frequency: 200) to see if stable.

otherwise for 1066 can try the following:
voltage at 2.0
CPU Host Clock Control: enabled
CPU Host Frequency: 266
Performance Enhance: Standard
reboot and if stable then shutdown/unplug add additional ram.

Thanks for response, note that 4 GB worked once when i was on win vista then i formatted pc and i dunno what happened and it doesnt work anymore so im sure its compatible

i tried "otherwise for 1066 can try the following:
voltage at 2.0
CPU Host Clock Control: enabled
CPU Host Frequency: 266
Performance Enhance: Standard
reboot and if stable then shutdown/unplug add additional ram."

And i got 1 long beep and 1 short and nothing on screen, although mouse and keyboard were working but nothing on screen i guess it didint post?

this ram model has no traceable approval of a mobo using p45 chipset (with more than 2G of ram installed), so it's trial and error.

maybe can try this...
voltage at 2.1
CPU Host Clock Control: enabled
CPU Host Frequency: 266
Performance Enhance: Standard
(G)MCH Frequency Latch :266
System Memory Multiplier (SPD): 4

1long/1short beep with GA/Award bios is an unspecified memory error.

and compatible means it works all the time, not just sometimes.

i also suggest you download CPU-Z run it and click About tab then SaveReport(TXT) button and attach file to your next post.

HI stu i attached the cpu-id txt for you

Anyways im having a new problem, everytime i modifiy anything in the bios, i get this 1long & short beep and it wont boot, i have to shut it down about 3-4 times before i can boot normally

Even modifiying the CPU ratio (i put it on 9 as it is supposed to be) and it does the same thing??

what is happening...:sigh:

Filling all the RAM slots on a Mobo can cause Voltage issues. For 4GB of RAM, the best solution is a matched pair of 2X2GB sticks.

the CPU-Z dump confirms the ram model is F2-8500CL5 which is not approved on this mobo, so the target at best should be 800 to ensure a stable system with all slots filled, not 1066.

also, shows the current CPU Clock Ratio is 6 (Core Speed @2Gig) should be 9 for a Core Speed @3Gig. That 1gig difference is far more important than doubling the amount of ram, so priority is to get the full Core Speed.

Use only original 2 ram sticks (system ram total 2g) and reset system in bios ie:
DEL, F6, F10, ESC, power off for 1 minute then boot. (alternatively, reset cmos).

Then verify/set CPU Clock Ratio: 9
should get a displayed core speed close to 3G like this:
CPU Clock Ratio [9X]
CPU Frequency 2.997GHz(333x9)
