pc suddenly very slow

2631 Views 3 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  veneratio
Hello,

since yesterday, for unknown reasons, my PC is very very slow. the taskmanager shows a permanent 100% cpu load, on both cores, while when listing the process, none has an important cpu load.

this makes the pc quite unusable, while I enjoyed my laptop for one year without pb, and I didn't install anything recently.

here's attached the log generated by combofix.exe

if anyone could tell me what happens (virus ?), this help would be greatly appreciated.

thanks a lot in advance!

Phil

Hello and Welcome.

ComboFix is not a tool which should be used without direct supervision of a trained helper. Doing so can render a system unbootable.

Also, security tool logs are not to be posted in this section of the forum, as indicated in this sticky announcement.

That said, I don't see much in the way of active infection in that log, or anything extremely terrible in what was removed. This may not be malware related.

Are you experiencing symptoms besides slowness and CPU usage which have you thinking this machine is infected?

A slow machine is not always a product of infection. I don't see any sign of active infection.

Please see this sticky topic for other ideas:

Also, you may want to try Process Explorer, which gives more detail than Windows Task Manager to help assess which process is using CPU.

If you still think you require malware removal assistance:

We want all our members to perform the steps outlined in the link I'll give you below, before posting for assistance. There's a

Please follow our 5 Step process outlined here:

After running through all the steps, you shall have a proper set of logs.

After running through all the steps, please post the requested logs in the HijackThis Log Help forum, not here.

If you have trouble with one of the steps, simply move on to the next one, and make note of it in your reply.

Please note that the HijackThis Log Help forum is extremely busy, and it may take a while to receive a reply.

You may want to pursue other avenues before seeking malware removal assistance.

hello,

sorry for not having followed the forum rules, and a big thank you for providing help & support nonetheless
your message definitely helped me, esp the hint reg process explorer.

thank you again for your time & care

all the best,

Phil
one tell tale way to get an idea what processes are freaking out:
*ctr-alt-delete --> task manager --> processes tab.
*click the top of the column, right where it says CPU.
(this lists the processes in order from most usage to least or vise versa. click this untill the heavy processes are at the top.
*"system idle process" is usually 99 or 98. you will see your heavy process bump up near that top of the list area, near "system idle process"
