Help:
While visiting for the holidays, I need to set up my PC that is using XP Home, to access the Airport run off of the iMac here. Currently, a mac laptop uses this with no problems and accesses the internet.

I have a wireless signal and have managed to get onto the wireless network. It indicates strong signal strength, but when I click on a browser or Skype, no Internet is able to be accessed.

I have since put the iMac into Internet Sharing Mode, but don't know if I need to tweak anything further on XP to make it work. Currently, everything on XP is in the automatic detect mode.

I have tried to bridge and even to share the internet off of the iMac using infared, but that didn't seem to work.

It has been suggested on a Mac forum that I input the DNS server's IP Address into my PC data. Problem is, in which type of setup: Direct to another computer/ private network through Internet/ via broadband?

I have access to her wireless network, but not the Internet- how do I fix this? Please help me as the Scotch is not and I really want to use my PC and not this Mac. Step by step people, it is getting late.

Any ideas? Please tell me that it is a simple box that I left unticked!

Type the following command:

IPCONFIG /ALL

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.

Go into the TCP/IP properties of your wireless adapter and click "Obtain an IP address automatically" and click "Obtain DNS server address automatically".

The biggest problem here is you have no default gateway. This should be the IP pof the router. I noticed that DHCP was diabled so I had you re-enable it hoping that DHCP was enable on the router and you would get the configuration from it. But apperently this is not the case. You will need to input static properties for the above and make sure you get a default gateway as dis would be the route outside to the internet.

After setting if for automatic IP addresses, let's see the IPCONFIG again.

Thanks to everyone who helped me with this issue.

It turns out that it was a problem with the iMac's security... I turned off the WEP and then my PC was able to automatically configure itself to communicate with the internet, since there was already a wireless connection.
