Hi, I'm trying to use PartitionMagic 8 to resize and then partition the hard drive on my windows XP home edition laptop (it's a dell). Here's the problem, when it restarts to partition it, it says "Error 27: Unable to lock hard disk". I have looked up what this means, and it says that that partitionmagic needs to lock the hard drive before performing operations on it. And it can only lock it when all processes are closed. So, this might mean that there are processes running that it cannot close. But how can this be when it hasn't even booted up yet? :sad:

Try to use the the program in Safe Mode.

running Norton go back?
(shut it down)

Run chkdsk /r first, reboot, let it do it's thing, then try again.
Let us know how it went.
