so i had to replace a dead harddrive on my toughbook cf-w2.

beedn getting all the drivers put in it.

i don't have the original restore disk. i

i have two issues.

one, the power management does not work right. on battery power the display shuts off after about 3 minutes and there is no getting it back. also with the battery attached it won't shutdown all the way or restart. get powered down but won't start back up unless i take out the battery to 'reset' it.

two, the wifi card works but loses connection after a few minutes. it will reconnect if i disable and renable it. but won't stay connected for more than a few minutes...

any thoughts?

i should say that the machine functions fine on ac power and i use a usb wifi with no issues...

thanks in advance...

A belated responce to your post reg CF-W2 power manager.

It seems, I have the same problem. The battery is brand new. It works on another panasonic of the same class. Laptop shuts down in seconds in my case.
any solution?

you'r problem is that you replaced a 3.3v hd with a 5v hard drive. To solve this problem you can either go buy yourself another hard drive or cut the 41 and 44 pin on your hard drive. I have done this with many toughbooks now and had positive results each time.

well, huh. who knew to even look for that...

guess i shouldn't go monkeying with things i know little to nothing about...

alas, my powerbook now has died on me [i tried to do a driver install while on battery power yes i know this is stupid don't remind me i've learned my lesson by turning my functional machine into a very tough and sturdy doorstop] and now i can't even get it to boot up the xp install disk. whoa is me.

the differing voltage on the hard drive does make sense though. if i can get the silly thing to boot, i'll look into fixing that...

I do not know very much about the other laptop bit my guess is you could find out more about the hard drve either I. The manual or on the website. I wouldn't be suprised it your problem is similar tho. Another ssue I know of though is if the other laptop has sata hard drives and your not using the original restore in some cases windows will not load correctly because it didn't recongnize the drives as sata. If this is the case all you have to do is go into bios and disable sata load. Windows, then load your sata driver, and reenable sata

When you replace 3.3V HD with a 5V HD without clipping pins 41 and 44, CF-W2 will not even power on. In his case it can be something different.
