Ok, now I'm on my dad's computer, and we've been having a slight problem. Whenever I try to use a free email service, it gives me a page that says "The page cannot be displayed
The page you are looking for is currently unavailable. The Web site might be experiencing technical difficulties, or you may need to adjust your browser settings. "
I've read elsewhere that this can be caused by firewall protection, but disabling the firewalls seems to do nothing to alleviate it. anyone have any suggestions?

Hi there...

Have you been able to confirm if there are any problems with the website? Would you be able to supply the address so we can see if we get the same problem please?

Also, what firewall are you using? Some firewalls can still have an effect on webpages loading even when disabled.

Have you tried another browser?

Could be a firewall. Spybot will do that also. May also be a internet
security setting. Site may require active x, and your settings by default
will be set no active x. The site will more than likely show up in blocked
web sites, you can go into there and allow the site. Can be one of several
issues. Go into internet tools and check out your security settings...It
may be a good thing that the site is being blocked. good luck,,,

Here are a few examples of pages i find impossible to visit. This is not a recent thing, and has been going on for months.
Hotmail signup page
Yahoo mail login
And also Windows Live Messenger fails to connect, and I think it owes it to the same problem.
The computer only runs Zonealarm, and has cable with comcast and a linksys router. (I have tried not using the router, and that doesn't make any difference.)

In zone alarm do you have it set to show every time it blocks incoming
or outgoing traffic? Most people turn that option off because it gets
annoying. I would turn that option back on and try to log into those
sites and see if it blocks. If so you know the culprit. You can also
go into zone alarm and check out which sites have been blocked, I think
that is in program control. If you find they are blocked you can allow from
there. Myself I dont use a firewall because the router pretty much keeps
you secure..The router is a firewall in itself....

Check if those sites are in your hosts file. This file should be at C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc

It looks like it was norton doing the problem. I fixed it, but then norton started making other problems, so I just got rid of it. thanks for the help.
