Packard Bell Laptop K2585 Won't Go Past Initial Screen...

Hey guys,

new to this forum. really need some help please!!

my dad has this old packard bell k2585 laptop....and for some reason a coupla days ago it stopped working.

the problem is, when you press the start button, an initial 'Packard Bell' screen appears. this screen has two options, either press F2 to enter BIOS set up, or F12 to boot on network.

for some reason, the screen remains fixed on this, and none of these two options work.

any ideas why??? its quite urgent as he has a lot of work on the HD...so any help is appreciated!! thanks!!

hi,

two things to consider. either RAM or HDD may be malfunctioning. run Memtest on your RAM or replace all your RAM with known working spares. if symptoms persist, then test HDD. try CHKDSK /R in Recovery Console using your XP install CD (if you have one).
