Hey there folks!

Well you all were invaluable in helping me solve my last problem (which ended up being the power supply).

Now I have an odd-ball problem that first started appearing even before the power supply switch, but has continued to be a constant...

Every time I power up, I get the message "New CPU Installed! Press F1 to setup or F2 to load defaults."

Now this would be great & all if I *DID* have a new, magically appearing CPU...but the sad fact remains that it is the same ol' cpu I've been using ever since I've had this mobo! (doh!)

If I press F1, press esc, and then 'exit without saving changes', the system boots up just fine. If I "restart" the computer from XP, the computer will boot up afterward without the message; however, whenever I boot up from a power-off, the message re-appears. I thought at first it might be the battery on the mobo, but it seems that if I do the F1/esc/no save combo, it remembers all of my bios settings from when it was last powered down -- which I assume it wouldn't be doing if the battery was indeed dead.
Just for a test, however, I kept the computer on overnight to see if it would charge up the battery...but the error still remained, so I assume it's not that.

Anyway, like I said, I'm stumped :4-dontkno . Before I had the newest "non-beta" bios revision (when the problem first started), and then I flashed to the newest beta bios, and the problem still remained. So, at least as bios revisions, I'm up to date.

Well, you guys just continue to amaze me...so if you have any suggestions, feel more than free to give me your thoughts. ;)

Thank you!

Hi,
I have to agree with your assumption that the CMOS battery is bad.
Only costs about $3.00 to change it and find out.
If that doesn't correct the problem, you may need to download the
latest BIOS for your motherboard and update it.

Welcome to TSF:

have you tried clearing your cmos ????? (see manual for CLRTC)

& add new battery / how did you update your bios ??????? I would try it again with the AFUDOS utility / make sure you donwload version 2.11 off the asus site / its newer than the one on the mobo cd

IMO i'll warn you not to use ez-bios or live update

regards

NEW CPU message...I have same problem with P5AD2PR-E

I get new cpu installed, press f1 to enter BIOS, press F2 to load default settings. I bought this computer online, so returning for warranty work is not practical. I followed previous thread here, and replaced the battery on the ASUS MB, reset BIOS, (am using latest BIOS version from ASUS), and no change. I don't know what to do with this problem. I hope someone can help.
MB = ASUS P5AD2PR-E P4, 3.4G, 1M/800 Mhz CPU; Crucial IGB, DDR2-667 Memory, running XP Pro.

This problem has been occurring almost since I got the computer, only not as often. Now occurs every boot up. Replaced battery over the weekend and still having same problem. Why??
