Test the RAM & the hard drive.

test the RAM with this: Memtest86.com - Memory Diagnostic

test the hard drive with drive maker's diagnostic software (the DOS version). Links are here: Hard Drive Diagnostics Tools and Utilities (Storage) - TACKtech Corp.

Both downloads will be an ISO CD-image file from which you can make a bootable CD on a working computer. Boot your faulty computer from those CDs separately for each test.

A) is your hard drive a sata or IDE drive?

B) what version of windows are you using ? XP with which service pack intergrated?

Am Using Microsoft Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2 and the Hard Drive is Sata

Did you have an OS installed before?
What are the Error Codes you see on the BSOD?

It is a clone PC, home built. I have to state that I installed windows ME earlier and it worked perfectly! an upgrade from this was impossible coz it would repeat the earlier behavior.
