hey all,

I have a P4 2.4G cpu running on an ASUS mb. 512 RAM and an ATI RADEON 64M Video card.

Windows 2000 Pro srvc Pack 3.

When i am at the desktop and all I open is Task Manager, At the bottom it shows your cpu usage. I have looked at others and thiers are always around 6 -7%. Mine is at 37%. I have cleaned out my Registry and verified that the processes running are the normal bunch for win2k. My system Idle process shows 99(which i beleive is how much of my cpu is sleeping) but the reading on the bottom and the graphical display shows 37%............

Any ideas on where to start looking??

Are you sure you're not looking at the RAM usage? Select View, Show Kernel Times and see what CPU usage says at the bottom of the display. FWIW, the upper display is processor usage, the lower one is memory.

Hey,

I am actually seeing three things on the bottom.
1)processes open
2)cpu usage
3)mem usage

I know that I am readng it right. In fact when I set the view to show kernal usage, it turns red on the graphical display. Unfortunately the forum database wont let me attach a picture right now.

Thanks for the help,
