Hi, I've recently run into a problem where my PC seems to shut down while playing games. I'm trying to figure out what the problem is.

I have been advised elsewhere that my temps seem to be high, but the replies are coming very slow so I decided to seek help on this board before there's any damage to my PC.

Of note, I moved very recently and this is the first I've gamed on the machine since the move. Maybe something became dislodged? Also, what's weird is that both CPU and GPU temps appear to be pretty high.

temps:

Please advise on how to find out what's causing the problem.

PC:
Antec P180 (or closest aprox, doesn't have the top fan went raised)
ASUS P5K Premium/WiFi-AP
E8200 OC'ed 3.6Ghz (Tuniq Tower cooler)
ATI 4870
Be Quiet PSU (says on the side, can't find any system info on PSU)

First thing is to back off the OC and see if its more stable, the vcore max listed by cpuid gets somewhat high and this can lead to overheating

Back off the OC.
What are temps showing in the Bios?
Moving the PC could have dislodged the CPU's HSF, especially a larger aftermarket unit.

Wow! Furious5k your pc is not overclocked. It is underclocked by .66 ghz according to the link you posted. Looks like your overclock failed for some reason. If you are trying to run newer games this may be your issue.

Yes, I noticed that and it was weird because it was saying 3.66 at PC startup.

However, now I'm starting to really freak out. Yesterday, my PC randomly scrambled all my audio settings such that when I started the PC up no sounds were playing and the front audio jacks weren't working when I tried to use headphones. I could still get the jacks at the back to work.

Now, I just restarted my PC to look at startup and see if it was still saying 3.66 and lo and behold, I get a completely different start up screen?! I'm going to try and restart a few times and note anything important it says there. Uhh ohh.

I would not go bench testing just yet we need to get into this a bit more.

We do need the specs of the psu they are usually on a sticker on the side, we need to know the amps of the +12V,+3.3 and +5V.

Enter bios by tapping the delete key at startup, look around for the same voltages and also temps and post them here.

You say it shuts down while gaming, does it just shut down or reboot?
Does it ever reboot?

Sticker is not visible. I'm sure it's there, but to my untrained eye it looks like PSU is a the first thing in this LIFO system so I can't get at it.

Now I don't know much about PSUs, but it looks like, for this model, all that changes with added Wattage is a larger number of "+12Vx - 20 A" where x > 0. I took this information from here http://www.ciao.co.uk/sr/q-bqt.p7.pro

The PC seemed to just shut down, the fans were still running pretty fast but nothing would respond and monitor went on stand by orange light. I didn't give it very long before reseting it manually, but it stayed like that for maybe 30 seconds and didn't do anything. I haven't had any restarts.

From BIOS:
CPU temp 35
MB temp 32

CPU Fan Speed 1480RPM
Chassis Fan 1 N/A
Chassis Fan 2 N/A
Chassis Fan 3 N/A

VCORE 1.184V
3.3V 3.328V
5V 5.040V
12V 11.984V

CPU Q-Fan Control Disabled
Chassis Q-Fan Controls Disabled

Do you know what the total wattage is of your psu there are several in your link the +12v is very important ecpecially with the video card you are running.

Update to the latest video card drivers if it still does this run the game with the side case off and a desk fan blowing in there, your temps and voltages in bios look good but thats only at idle.

Actually, I've been gaming, ran Prime95 and FurMark and my PC hasn't crashed lately. Though I am running without the side panel and, however it happened, the CPU seems to have been put back to standard speed.

Put the side panel on and plat your game if it shuts down you got a heat/temp problem, usually when removing the side panel helps its because of poor airflow inside the case either because a lack of case fans or inproper placement/ direction

Put the panel back on, ran Prime for 30+ minutes, temps go up to 56c, no crash. Then used Furmark for about 10 minutes at a setting that gets me average of 20FPS, temps go up to 89c, no crash. Then played Call of Duty 4 for a 1-2 hours, still no crash.

This is odd, because before I had crashes on two seperate days, so it wasn't a one time occurance.

Okay, I cleaned my PC out properly. It was relatively clean, mind you. But I noticed (accidentally) that after you open the front swivel door, there are two extra pop-open doors over each fan front fan. I was trying to vacuum them through the grates, which obviously didn't clean properly due to having an extra mesh behind there which is hard to clean without taking out. I also got compressed air and blew out my computer. The temps dropped by about 4c on both CPU and GPU.

Now the important bit (unless my pc crashes again) for me is to find out why does the CPU clock keep jumping it's multiplier between 6 and 8 (making it 1999MHz and 2666MHz respectively). Any ideas???

Also, when I'm running my PC for an extended amount of time (not sure exactly, but more than a few hours) the CPU load very randomly starts giving jumps of up to 50% load. Does this suggest some kind of malicious software or could this be a hardware problem?

EDIT: I forgot, the PSU seems to be 650W from what I could see through the cracks. [It looks like the PSU is stuck where it is because I couldn't see any way of removing it without getting those melty-type seal-instead-of-screw things off. MAAAAAYYYBEE if I took out the HDD bay and took out the fan between them I could slide the PSU through to freedom, but that's a big maybe].
