hey guys i was just having a look at my bios...no idea why...and i saw an overclocking option..

overclocked my cpu from 2.3 to 2.6...

is it ok to do this through the bios ?

i know overclocking shortens life spam of cpu and increases performance and temps...

but is using the bios a good idea ?

thanks :)

oh i thought it was complexed...so theres huge guides that go on and on...and lots of different programs...do you reckon the programs are just for checking on how the cpu is managing after the OC?

the only thing i can tell from looking at the ram is that its DDR2 and i could upgrade to DDR3?
No
OC'ing also voids warranties.
Posting your PC specs would be helpful. We can't advise OC'ing without knowing what we're working with.

there are two ways to overclock

a) software overclocking from within windows

b) bios overclocking

the software method is often times favored for beginners as its easier but bios overclocking has more potential and greating control

it really depends how serious you want to get into this

have you checked our overclocking forum and read the stickies in there ?

if you are looking for more performance from your system upgrading the cpu to the phenom II deneb 965 which is 3.5ghz at stock would make alot more sense......u would need to update the bios with your existing cpu in place prior to switching but that aint no biggie
