Outlook 2003 Professional won't deliver incoming messages to the 'Inbox'.

Background:
Previously had MS Office Professional 2000 installed on a XP OS.
Upgraded to MS Office Professional 2003.
Processor speed, RAM and HD size all far above minimum hardware requirements.

Outlook 2003 sends outgoing messages correctly.
Outlook 2003 retrieves incoming messages from POP3 server, but fails to deliver them to the Inbox within Outlook.
The incoming messages 'disappear' into the twilight zone.

Already set the Mail Profile, etc.

I must be doing something wrong.
I'm confident that I've overlooked an embarrassingly simply solution.

Any suggestions?
