Hi there.

It seems that we have acquired two viruses on our home computer; Norton calls them w32.ronoper.worm and w32.kwbot.f.worm, and has quarantined them but cannot clean the damage off the hard drive. So I boogied over to symantec with my extremely limited tech knowledge, and dutifully followed removal instructions up to the point where I was supposed to delete certain lines of text out of the Registry - but I couldn't find those lines of text there.

Like I said, this is NOT my forte. We figure the viruses came over through Kazaa, which we are done with now (no 80s music is worth this hassle.) Our homepage keeps switching to http://cool-homepage.com automatically (thought we fixed that but now it's back) and when I try to sign OUT of hotmail or IN to yahoo mail, it says an error has occured and the browser closes. What's up with that?

Any advice appreciated (beyond "don't let your computer get attacked by viruses, brainiac.") Thanks!

Because you have up-to-date virus protection, they may not have been able to alter your registry. Perhaps there is an exe file somewhere that you missed.

If you would like us to take a look, you can run Hijack This from the link below (a quick start page with more info and instructions).

Create and copy a log and paste it here.

Thanks so much! Here's what I came up with...scanning through it and pretending I can understand any of it, we found some program names that my husband was pretty sure he'd removed (weatherbug, kontiki and whatnot) but I guess that's not a surprise - god only knows what other foolishness snuck in.

Please let me know if there's anything here that I can safely get rid of that might help with the virus "symptoms"...thanks again.

Whatever you say, chief! Spybot seemed to find a whole bunch of stuff, and looked like it was getting rid of it, but the log doesn't look a lot smaller to me. Am I doing something wrong? Is there something else I should do to clean it up?
