OS uppgrade

836 Views 3 Replies 2 Participants Last post by  sinclair_tm
I'm currently running OS X 10.2.8 on my 400MHz single processor G4 PowerPC. 1024Mb of RAM.

Will it be ok to install OS X 10.4 Tiger on this machine? I've got an external hard drive to Carbon Copy Clone the internal hard drive (this is also used for backups).

Reason behind this is that I'm being left behind by people like Photobucket and RealPlayer who no longer support my current browser Safari 1.0.3, and I need the beefier OS to support a later version of Safari.

Anybody encountered any problems in this area?

As long as your Mac meets these requirements, you'll be fine installing Tiger. So, ya, I'd find a retail copy of Tiger, use CCC to clone the internal drive to the external, then use the Tiger disk to format and then install it to the internal drive. Just remember, Tiger comes on a DVD, so you need a DVD reader.
Thanks STM. Only query is Firewire, but I've got Firewire Plugin and several other Firewire support etc files, so I guess this is a yes.
All G4's have bulit in Firewire ports, hardware, which is what it's looking for, not software. So you should be good to go.
