Title says it all. All of the sudden my onboard sound has disappeared from Playback Devices as well as Device Manager - it is nowhere to be found. Both Playback Devices and Device Manager show only nVidia High Definition Audio. I've always run my sound through the rear panel 3,5mm jack to an amplifier, but this morning it just wouldn't work. The front panel jacks don't work either.
I've tried locating onboard sound in BIOS to no avail. I've tried updating drivers, only to be told they're up to date. System recovery has also been performed.
Other things tried include:

-Dusting off everything
-Searching hours and hours online for answer
-Checked Disabled and Disconnected Devices in Playback Devices.

I'm in dire need of help.

System:

OS: Windows 7 Ultimate 32bit
Mootherboard: Msi P43t-c51
CPU: Intel Core Duo2
GPU: nVidia GTX 460se v2

Ask if you need any other info.

That motherboard has a basic realtek onboard solution. You are seeing your video cards high definition (HDMI) sound in the device manager because usually ... most people when they install nVIDIA drivers (video card) they don't look at the advanced options, meaning you installed the HDMI sound drivers for your video card instead of un-selecting it during video driver install, and that HDMI driver is going unused. You will find your realtek onboard sound in the bios under integrated peripherals.

Try uninstalling your driver and then re-installing it.

So uninstall nVidia driver and reinstall, bearing in mind I have to deselect the HDMI-driver option? The Realtek is nowhere to be found in bios by the way, neither in integrated peripherals nor in advanced options.

Well, if you were using onboard audio (example) and then you installed your GTX460 driver yes you can deselect the HDMI package if you choose an 'advanced' installation but you really don't want to do that because you might be using the HDMI video signal and the audio signal is sent over the same connection. As far as your motherboards onboard audio....i'm not sure you are looking in the right spot? That motherboard does in fact use a realtek solution which you were using, and i can't fathom how it can disappear in the actual bios though i can see how it's gone in your device manager. I mean, i use to mod BIOS/s for shuttle and biostar users with MODBIN, eliminating some options and granting others, but not once in about 300+ BIOS/s did i ever see that option not being there with the mainboard having the physical realtek solution (or CMI or other) on the motherboard itself, moreover, it can't just disappear from the BIOS string/code itself.

Of course there are solutions -- easy for your issue. You can use the HDMI audio from your GTX460 or you can buy a sound card. I use and audigy SE in my second box and it has great sound for a $30.00 card.
