OnBoard 7.1 HD Audio

4983 Views 3 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  TheMatt
I'm interested in upgrading my crappy 2.0 speakers into a decent 5.1 system. My sound hardware is the 7.1 onboard audio from my MSI K9N Neo MB. My question is, will I be unhappy with the sound quality of this onboard audio, and need to buy a new sound card as well? Or is will this suffice?

I play most of my music via a stereo system, so the sound will really be more for gaming.

Thanks!

Hi,

You are asking for a personal opinion. Therefore, mine is that you will be pretty well satisified with this system. You must realize that a great sound card would be best, but the quality of these onboard sound cards is much better than just a few short years ago. Personally, I just use the onboard anymore and I have been pleased with what that offers. Only if you so choose to split hairs would it become necessary to purchase an extra card. Give it a try and if not satisified, you can always add one later. That is my opinion.
A personal opinion is exactly what I'm looking for. Past experiences, impressions, etc., will help my make my own decision. Thanks for your response, as I was also under the impression that a difference would only be minimal as my Mobo is fairly new.
I think you will be fine. I am somewhat of an audiophile, and I am happy with my onboard sound on my laptop for listening to my music and watching my movies.
