Have you tried going into device manager and looking under the primary and secondary IDE channel properties and seeing if the transfer mode is set to DMA if available...:)

The primary IDE channel is set to DMA if available
The secondary is set to PIO only

do you think that by setting the secondary to DMA i will be able to burn?

I don't think so.

Have you got the program CD Speed available here .

If not download version 0.85 it will have two programs Nero CD Speed and Nero drive speed.

I had similar issues to yours and after running these it worked fine...:D

I assume you mean 5.5.8.2

I'm sorry I forgot that this version comes with CD Drive and CD Speed.

Click
Start
Programs
Ahead Nero
Nero Toolkit
Nero Drive Speed
If a window doesn't open look for a CD in the tray next to the clock and click this.
Click Detect and it show your CD speed.

Do this then we'll move on to the next step if all goes well...;)

Now you have to run CD Speed if you haven't done so already.

You will have to select the drive with the dropdown box up top and put a data or a audio CD into the drive you want to test.

A line should go across the chart telling you the start and finish speed of the drive. The line should have an arc to it when done with no drop outs.

I just went to Nero's site and it looks like your CD burner is not supported.
Look here

Man I'm kicking myself in the *** for not looking earlier, Sorry...

Looks like it's time to try EZ CD Creator if you can get a hold of it somewhere.
It does support your burner...:D ...I checked this time...;)

Ah grasshopper you not say CD Racer in your no.1 post...:D

I will venture further into the depths of the Nero site...:)

Yes >> CD Racer IDE 2x2x24x - - - Ver. 4.0.8.3 NM Ver.1.2.1

Did this burner ever work since it has been in your possession?

If you have another machine I would try it in there with a nice fresh load of Nero software.

For what these things are selling for these days you should probably think about replacing it anyway.

If my memory serves me correct it takes about 27 min. to burn a CD at that speed....;)

Yeah i guess you probably right..............:D

i am running pentium 2 350, do you think i might have trouble buying the latest CD burners (i mean will it fit my computer)?

Get a 12X or 16X there cheap right now, It takes about six minutes to burn a whole CD.

If you get a 32X it will cut it in half, Maybe..:)

If you defrag and shut down a lot of the programs that are running using Control Alt Delete but leave Explorer and systray there you should have no problems...:D
