I had installed some crappy freeware that contained a TON of spyware. I had pop-ups like MAD from certain companies and when I went into msconfig and then into the startup, I could see these companies. I then uninstalled this program that gave me all this crap! When I was in the add/remove software list, I saw these companies listed there, too, so I got rid of them, as well. BUT!! I am still getting pop-ups! I mean, they aren't specific to these companies (that they read when they pop-up), but I am wondering if something is still in my system causing them. I am getting them randomly on sites that don't even HAVE pop-up ads. That is what is making me suspicious that something is still in my computer from this freeware.

Any ideas where I can look to see if something is still hidden in my PC?? I am going nuts!!

Go to www.zdnet.com and do a search for AdAware.

This will search for and remove the spyware.

Well, I have spybot and I have run it, but the thing is, I am wondering if this is something that is actually INSTALLED causing this problem.

Do you think it might be?

Do you have kazaa or any other file sharing software installed? They include programs that you agreed could run when you click I accept.

My sister is having a sort of similar problem, she has something installed on her computer that is popping webpages, not just popups, every 2 minutes, about 3 of them, and they never stop coming. I have looked through almost everything, start up, etc. and I can't find anything to do with the popups. I've run like 5 different ad/spy/etc. removal programs and she STILL has them. If anyone knows what is going on or what I could do it would be much appreciated.

Yep! That is sort of like me! I ran everything, too, to see what I could get rid of and nothing has helped...ALTHOUGHHHH...I don't think I have it AS bad as your sister does. I learned my lesson about installing things like that. HELL NO ANYMORE!!
