Office Xp Backward compatibility

1761 Views 3 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  Rob
I've run into this problem twice in the last two days. My office consists mainly Win 98 OS and a 97 Office suite (microsoft) and Office 2000. Someone sent in a doc that was edited in word xp and now we cannot open it. Is this possible? I am assuming that office xp is backward compatible through most word versions, let alone word 2000. Do you have any suggestions? Thanks

I've seen problems like this before. Is there a chance that they can resend you the file after saving it in a different format?
I do believe that there is an option to save in Office 97/2000 format when the document is saved in Office XP I would suggest that you have them save the file in this backward compatable format.

If this does not work you could always save it in Rich-Text Format (.rtf). This will keep your formatting and will open in almost anything.
Try adding functions to Office XP. Insert the Office XP cd and customize it so that everything runs from the HD and not from the CD or on first use.
