Okay, so I went to speedtest.net and ran a test multiple times, and it all came out to about the same thing.

The problem is, that when I go do download something, it only downloads at about 500-600 kbps and I have no idea why.
Could anyone give me a possible solution?
I've tried forwarding ports and closing background programs.

Yep, stop confusing bits and bytes!

You have 4.86mbit connections, and bytes are 8 bits. 4,860,000 / 8 = 607,500 or around 600kbytes/sec as an absolute maximum. Since there is some protocol overhead, I'd expect in the 500-550 range.

No, they didn't lie, and it's working just fine! Again, it's your misunderstanding about what you have that's the issue, not the Verizon FiOS service.

I have Verizon FiOS 20/5 service.

My download speeds are about 2.2mbytes/sec, and that means I'm getting full bandwidth. Again, bits and bytes, they're NOT the same.

FWIW, I'm also very pleased with the FiOS service, it's been rock-solid here so far.
