I play the game The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion a lot, and it always seems to run slow. This is not a major problem, but I was just wondering if anyone here has any suggestions on how to speed up gameplay. My first version of the game is no longer working (don't ask), and I am going to get a new copy this Xmas. But I have a copy at my house now (rental) so I know it just wasn't only my old copy. Again, this is no big deal, but if anyone has any thoughts please post.

Courtesy of TeamXbox.com:

Oblivion uses the Xbox 360 hard drive to cache game data and in some cases the info stored on the hard drive can get fragmented, slowing down the game's performance. Bethesda has already found out a way to fix the issue. Here is the official word:

Oblivion uses the Xbox 360 hard drive extensively to cache (copy and reuse) game data. This is done to optimize all loading the game does. It has been found in rare cases on some Xbox 360s that the cached data can get overly fragmented. This exhibits itself by the game taking a long time to load anything from menus, dialogue, sounds, objects, levels, and more.

To solve this problem, reset your Xbox, and hold down the A button as the game is booting up. If any button is held while Oblivion is loading, it will clear its hard drive cache, and create a new one.
Once you see the “Bethesda Softworks” logo video, the game is already loaded, and the cache should have been cleared.

Note, this does not effect your game in any way other than loading. You will not lose any saved data.

I'm surprised I still remember this, but I guess I did keep a close eye on that game when it launched. Decided to get it on PC because I don't think I would like the current leveling system so I want the option to mod it out.

Yeah I had same problem a few months back when I was playing Oblivion. Did what 40 has suggested to you & it should clear up all issues.

If it doesn't, call Microsoft, could be a hardware issue.

Whenever I enter my Oblivion Disc (I had it since 3/10/07) It takes about 3 minutes to read then it goes to a white screen saying "To play this disc, please enter it in an XBOX 360 console". I have had it for a while and have had no problems. it isnt my xbox because my other games work.
