Hello out there....

I had an nvidia gfroce 4 mx420.. 64mg vid card... a friend agreed to buy it and allow me to "trade up"... I picked up a radeon 8500le 128 mg card... more price and really not any obvious improvement... What's realstic to expect from such an upgrade?... I'm thinking about taking this radeon 128 back for the good, reliable, and cheaper gforce 4 mx 420, 64mg. Does anyone have any feedback on this situation?

Depends, dude. You need to tell us some more info on your system; I personally have never viewed the "MX" series of Nvid cards as strong performers.

It could be as simple as your motherboard only supports up to AGP2x, and there is always driver issues. The drivers you get with the card are usually out dated when they ship.

It could also be that the apps or games you are running are not that video intense that they utilize the extra memory.

Welcome to the forum, and please give us some more info on your basic configuration and the app you are using for comparison.
