Nvidia droped support for my vid card

I have a pretty good laptop with a Pentium 4 3.8, 3gb ram and a nvidia Geforce 6800 Go Ultra video card which is a more than decent videocard.

However, nvidia doesnt support my videocard anymore, in other words they dont offer new drivers for it in their website anymore, alienware has newer drivers for my card in their website but as everyone should know, alienware sucks.

i've been searching the net for newer drivers, I found a forceware driver and updated my card, the date of my driver is now 8/7/2006

What about later tho? when I install a newer game and I might need to update my drivers? what should I do?

I am also having horrible framerate problems with battlefield 2142, my machine should more than support that game and it runs incredibly smooth and then suddenly the framerate craps out but if I alt tab back to windows then back to the game it kind of fixes itself (sometimes)

As explained above, if your card is any of the cards listed, latest driver released is the latest driver for your card.

You can check all drivers by their Release Version here. The higher number indicates more recent driver. You can install any of them, but we have some recommendations as some of them are poor and some of them are generally good drivers.

Do NOT forget there is NO best driver for everything. One is good for games, one is good for video, one fixes some problems while introducing new ones and so on.

In general which series you should use with your card is;
GeForce 7xxx cards - 80 and up.
GeForce 6xxx cards - 70 and up.
GeForce FX (5xxx) cards - 70 and up.
GeForce 4xxx cards - 60 and up.
GeForce 3 cards - 60 and up.
GeForce 2 cards - 60 and up.
Quadro cards - 80 and up.
Latest ones usually work fine with all cards, the list is just for stating you can but should NOT go below recommended series.

Current recommended driver for general use is: 84.25 (32bit XP), 84.25 (64bit XP)

You can check LV2Go Official ForceWare Recommendations thread here.
You can check Bill's Driver Recommendation thread here for the drivers that keep most people happy.
You can also check the Benchmarks Section to check the results of tests with different graphics cards and drivers.

Just keep your Operating System in mind while choosing the driver.
Thats just what they reccomend, personally i use the 84.21 for my desktop 6800 Ultra, i find it to be the most stable, but others may disagree.

For information regarding installing/uninstalling drivers, read the 'Nvidia Drivers Info' thread in my signature.
:(

84.25 doesnt work in my videocard.. i have the laptop version of the 6800 ultra
Have you tried the 84.21 Drivers?
Are you getting any sort of errors when trying to install?

What about later tho? when I install a newer game and I might need to update my drivers? what should I do?
I've always used the 84.21 version (actually i did use some more recent versions, then reverted back as the performance was better), and i can run a wide range of games, no game has ever asked me update my video drivers? Have yours?

I am also having horrible framerate problems with battlefield 2142, my machine should more than support that game and it runs incredibly smooth and then suddenly the framerate craps out but if I alt tab back to windows then back to the game it kind of fixes itself (sometimes)
Do you have any programs running in the background? If so, disable them all before playing. Also, have a run through the 'Common Game Issues' link in my signature, it may help fix the problem.
thanks for your reply! right now I am using forceware version 84.26

when it comes to the Nvidia Geforce Go 6800 Ultra, I don't have many options as a lot of the forceware versions simply don't support it... which sucks.

84.26 seems to work fine and every game works fine except for battlefield, no I don't have any programs working in the background I really dont know whats going on, i even formated my pc and Installed a diferent OS (had media center, now I just use Xp Pro) and I still get the same problem

Which version of battlefield are you tring to run? What kind of error (if any) is it giving you when you try and run it?
First thing i would try is to patch the game to it's latest version.
Have a run through the 'Common Game Issues' link in my signature and see if anything there helps fix your BF problem.
its the latest version of battlefield 2142, I play it online, it runs very smoothly but then when there's a lot of acton going on at the same time it craps out, it slows down a lot (not because of the internet connectiion) and it stays like that for a while, screen laged really bad then it kind of fixes itself after i get killed and respawn in another place
Well, the Battlefield series are known for being system hogs. Even though they are not the most graphically demanding games they always manage to choke your system somehow, BF2 even had issues with memory leaks.
Best advice i could really give here is to try running the game on lower settings, such as a lower resolution, or turn off shadows, as they usually have the biggest impact on performance.
Thanks, yea i think this is more of a game issue than a computer issue, i played for a good 40 minutes today with plenty going on the screen and i didnt get the problem this time, I already tried lowering resolution and all that, I just dont know what the problem is, reinstalling the game wont help as I already even tried formating my pc and installing a different OS.... still geting the same problem, i even got my videocard replaced at alienware bla bla bla.....
