Nvidia 8400M GS update driver help?

998 Views 6 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  hybritical
I have the 8400M GS and I'm trying to update the driver with this:

http://www.nvidia.co...hql-driver.html

However, when I tried the screen went completely black for a long then I just had to restart and restore.
How do I get the install to work?

Also, I checked dxdiag and it says my current display mode is 32bit, but I went to try that driver and it said it's not supported. Do I need to change something? I checked my reinstall disc and it's definitely 64bit too. :-\

Hello,

What's the make and model of the laptop?
Driver updates should only be done from the manufacturer websites(Dell, HP etc)
That's probably why you're having problems with the driver.
All updates for OEM units should be obtained from the PC manufacturer. Drivers for retail versions are not always compatible with OEM.

Oh, didn't know that.

Well it's a Dell XPS M1330.
I just checked the drivers for your model. Unfortunately, the drivers they have date to 2008, which I assume is the original driver that came with the laptop. Seems like you'll be stuck with that.

Here is the link if you wish to see for yourself: Drivers & Downloads
Is there a particular reason you want/need to update the drivers? Are you having problems with the original drivers?

I installed the driver from that page but no dice.

I'm not having a problem per se. A game I am using is having a minor error. I saw on a forum that someone fixed their problem by updating the video drivers. :4-dontkno
