Yeah so basically, I uninstalled my old drivers to update to the new ones. Once uninstalled I was asked to restart, which I did. After the restart, I installed the new ones. I was prompted to restart again (which I predicted as such anyway), however, after the restart I keep getting:
This device cannot start. (Code 10)

Click Troubleshoot to start the troubleshooter for this device.
in device manager.

I Google'd "device cannot start (code 10) nvidia drivers" and every problem/solution in the first 10 pages either doesn't reflect my situation, or the fix doesn't work.

Before I uninstalled the drivers, my video card was working absolutely fine.

Any help is greatly appreciated, and if you have any questions just ask. :)

Is this for an oem machine? Like dell or hp , ect.... If so reinstall the drivers that the machine came with or install the original driver from the cd that the card came with.

in the device manager uninstall the video card
reboot tapping f8 and choose vga mode
when windows finishes rebooting
disable a/virus
install your drivers
reboot the computer

always go back to the original driver and recheck you have d/loaded the correct driver is this a laptop

Nope, it isn't. :) I don't have the disc, it's in storage (temp living arrangements and such), however it was working fine on the 179.x versions or so.

I did something similar with safe mode from possible solutions on Google, but I'll go do exactly this now.

It's a desktop PC, not a laptop. :)

Thanks so far guys.

Try a system restore to a point when the card was functioning. Make sure to back up anything you don't want to loose
Tried 4 different restore points and when they all rebooted to Windows, I got a message saying the system restore was incomplete, and that nothing was changed.

what are you running
video card
cpu
m/board
ram
power supply
brand
wattage

check the listings in the bios for voltages and temperatures and post them
Nvidia 7600 GS
AMD Athlon XP 2600+
Via Tech, KM400-8235
1.5GB DDR
Don't know and don't know how to find out unfortunately.
Brand for which, the PSU?

I'll check the voltages and temps next time I'm in the BIOS.

---

It just seems odd that this would start occurring now (if it were an issue with anything hardware-wise), after I uninstalled the drivers, just to update them. ;_;

take the side off the case and look at the psu label

the only time i have struck where the driver would not install was it being the wrong driver
and even then they usually install, may give you the bsod blues as a result of installing them

i have run the same card through
xp
vista
win7 including all beta and some alpha versions with no problems

try windows update for the driver

I once had a problem similiar to this, possibly identical, I however can't remember how it was resolved, but it wasn't too hard.

Looking on the update list now, but stumbled across this, is it of any interest?

brief edits:
Problem with it being a hardware issue is that it has fairly literally, run problem-free for the past 3 years or so.

Also, nothing on the update server except a minor fix for XP (KB951748).

oh and one more thing: don't know why, but the add/remove program list shows my Nvidia display drivers as taking up 1.2gb of room. Don't know if it's just an error with the list or not, but seemed odd.

(can't edit ^)

er, the CPU temp was 40ish, which is about normal for me. And has never given me troubles.

On the frequency/voltages (I thiiiink) section of the BIOS, were these two settings with the respective values:
CPU Clock: 166
AGP Skew Control: -280ps

*shrug* Unsure of relevance.

(can't edit again..)

After completely reformatting the disk and reinstalling windows, it's still showing the same error.

I should mention that I haven't completely updated Windows yet, as I am in the process of that (512 connection, zzzz), however, never had this problem when reformatting before. Could that (it never happening before?) be because they're newer drivers that, for some reason, Windows can't use without certain updates installed?
