Hi all, i'm experiencing a very frustrating BSOD on my desktop.

Here are some particulars:
• Windows 7 Ultimate (32 bit) with SP1.
• All available Windows updates are installed. http://www.techsupportforum.com/forums/#
• Intel core 2 duo E6600 2.4ghz
• NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTS 640mb graphics card
• No new hardware, no new software; no over-clocking.

My desktop has been running fine. Games, programs all work. Suddenly (not even in a game) it crashes to a BSOD. The blue screen 'Technical Information' says: "Attempt to reset the display driver and recover from timeout failed".

What i tried (with unsuccessful results) so far is:
• Boot in safe mode
• Remove drivers with Driver Sweeper
• Reboot in normal mode, wich works again. Then it will automatically install the recommended graphic drivers and tells me it requires a reboot. After reboot the BSOD appears again.
• Boot in safe mode again, remove drivers and delete upperFilter and lowerFilter.
• Uninstall thru 'manage hardware'. Reboot, manually install latest drivers: BSOD again.
• Tried BETA drivers, older drivers, latest drivers. All result in BSOD.

As you can imagine i'm slowly coming into a state to throw this computer and give it a one way ticket to my backyard, 3 floors below. I hope someone can help me out :(

In another forum they requested my log files, but no response so far (i know, i'm getting impatious :). I think they meant the minidump logs, so i attached them here too. Thanks in advance!

Nope, i recreated the BSOD and took a picture of it as the sneaky bastards always like to disappear quickly :)
It seems nvlddmk.sys is crashing. I added the pics. Also, during booting i see strange patterns thru the screen which shouldn't be there...

My PSU is a Spire SP ATX-500w. This couldn't be the problem as I've used this system for years without problems now.

I will try that solution Rits and see what happens.

Rits' solution didn't work :(

Dai, there are tools to measure how much power each part gets right? And to see if it's enough. Where can i download this? Perhaps it is the PSU that finally gives up.
As for testing my video card, i don't know anyone with the same type of slot for it.

I just did and ... same result. The problem really is the driver. When i uninstall everything it will boot in normal mode. Once in normal mode, Windows installs a driver for the card and as soon as that's installed it will no longer boot again without the BSOD.

Driver Signer: Microsoft Windows Hardware Compatibility Publisher

Wrench, is there any way to verify this? I hope you're wrong... Still, if it is my card then should i still be able to boot my pc and use programs like Photoshop with all sorts of graphic effects? I mean, the drivers seems to crash my system but without it all seems to work fine (except that i can't play any games).

Seriously? I Formatted my PC like 7 months ago and never installed Sonic RecordNow! anymore.
I did just install just about anything for my Creative Audio card and it updated everything too.
How to fully erase all the old junk? Windows seems to have a habit of keeping it around somewhere

I wil try to pick up a new PSU with at least 550w this weekend and post the results here. Thanks so much for the help so far! Really appreciate it :)

Alright :) But is it comparable with the 8800 GTS? I find lot's of reviews, but can't quite determine how it compares to my 8800 which i was very happy with. It's 5 years old and still i could play Skyrim at 1680x1050.

i'm also looking at a PSU, the Cooler Master Silent Pro M 600W

I checked out the topic from your signature and came up with the XFX PRO750W Core Edition. Price / performance wise that seems like a good deal.

The ASUS EAH6870 DC/2DI2S/1GD5 seems a lot more budgetfriendly and outperforms the GTX 560 TI ... so perhaps i go with that. What would you pick for about 220 euro?

I'm getting confused now ... i read the difference between the HD6870 and the EAH6870 is that the EAH is factory overclocked? So it should perform a bit better right? Don't know what to get anymore, too many letters and numbers involved :D Makes it confusing for a newbie like me.

I guess you're right about that! So looking at a stock HD6870 now. There are a lot of different brands like Club 3D, Sapphire, XFX, MSI, Gigabyte. The difference in price is 20 euros. Some say it's only because of the brandname and label on the card but others claim there's a difference in cooling. Right now i'm drawn towards the XFX dual fan edition, as it's said to cool very well and it's quiet.

Actually i also upgraded my PSU to a 750W :) They said here that 500W is not enough for my old 8800 GTS so perhaps it's a good idea for you too to upgrade your PSU.

Just my luck ... PSU and the new card arrived yesterday. To install them i had to remove my CPU cooler. After all was installed it turns out the plastic pins of my CPU cooler are budged and i can't install it anymore :( Have to either replace the pins or the entire unit.

Nope, it´s an Artic Freezer Pro 7. I budged the pins back, fitted it in very carefully and it worked. Right now i'm back in normal Windows 7 mode, with a video card that's been recognized and has drivers installed minus the BSOD :) So far i'm a happy person. Thanks all for the help!
